FireThere was pandemonium Thursday morning in Kabong Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state where fire destroyed goods worth millions of naira leaving thousands of traders helpless.

Their Properties which was worth Millions of Naira was in the early hours of Thursday destroyed in a devastating fire that gutted down many shops at Gada Biu market in Jos North Local Government area of Plateau State.

Eye witness confirmed that the fire which broke out around 5am was caused by an upsurge from the transformer in the market and was further compounded by gas cylinders used for operating the Engines in the market.

However, no life was lost in the incident, but one woman whose identity was not known at the time of filling in this report slumped and fainted as a result of the damages caused by the disaster.

Items  destroyed includes grinding engines of various categories, Grains and several assorted items like ground nut and palm oil stored in cans among other items.

Some youths who were seen at the scene trying to assist in putting off the fire, Moses Bitrus and one Emma blamed the fire service on what they termed as laxity in caring out their legitimate responsibilities.

“When the fire started around 4 am, we rushed to the service station at Gada Biu satellite market but they told us that they had no water in their tank.

“Before the service men at the headquarters could come the fire had already caused a huge damage”.

They said that during night of the incident, some youths rather than helped in quenching the fire, used the advantage of the incident to cart away some valuables but were halted by joint security operatives.

“It would be recalled the same Gada biu in Kabong was the first community that first experience bomb blast in the State where many people lost their lives and property on the 24th December, 2010.”
