Two militant groups yesterday unleashed violence on the people of Koko Abigborodo home town of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and other neighbouring towns in Koko North local government area of Delta State, burning to death no fewer than 10 persons and injuring over 20 persons.

The aggrieved militants barricaded major roads with bonfires attacking who ever crossed their way as they carried on the fight over leadership of the community.

Some members of the community had fled the towns for fear of being killed by the militants while the wounded ones were rushed to the Koko General Hospital for medical attention.

Daily Trust learnt that the cause of the crisis was the election produced the community leadership and a faction of the youths cried foul and insisted that they will not work with the new leadership.

It was learnt that a meetings were convened both within and outside the community by elders with a view to bringing the two factions together but it did not work out.

So this led to the setting up of an interim committee headed by one Victor Buwa to pilot the affairs of the youths and conduct fresh election within 90 days, it was gathered.

Buwa-led interim committee, however, got stuck to power and allegedly refused to relinquish power after 90 days and shunned all entreaties by the elders and the group that was abruptly sacked for the committee to achieve peace became restive and allegedly took laws into their own hands by unleashing mayhem, it was further gathered.

Police Public Relations Officer for the state command Lucky Uyabeme said he was yet to be briefed on the issue by the DPO of the area.
