The Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano has expressed appreciation to Anambra citizens for their cooperation and support of his administration that in less than two years into its term, the administration has been able to distinguish itself as visionary, with a clear strategy for realization.
Gov Obiano who spoke at the weekend in Lagos after he received the Ziks Prize for Leadership in the “Good Governance” category, identified poor planning and lack of vision as the major reasons for the failure of contemporary governments.
He noted that his administration upon inception developed a pragmatic blueprint guiding its developmental strides across the various sectors.
That the move has therefore entrenched a coordinated system that promotes growth of the local economy, encourages investment and ensures that the processes in the State administration is devoid of corruption and other negative practices that inhibit growth.
While thanking the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre for finding him worthy of the prize, Gov Obiano acknowledged that the honour will spur him into greater achievements in the service of the State and humanity.
The former Secretary-General, Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku in his remarks, said that Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe and other founding fathers of Nigeria through their nationalist movement had exemplified that leaders can really jettison personal interest and work for the good of the people. He expressed hope that the awards will engender in the recipients genuine commitment towards the cause of humanity.
The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), Chief Victor Umeh said Gov Obiano has justified the confidence reposed in him by Ndi Anambra by delving into and actually addressing challenges in key sectors of the state’s economy which had hitherto remained abandoned by previous administrations in the state.
According to him, the massive turnout by Ndi Anambra at the Awards, was a clear endorsement by the people of his visionary style of leadership that has impacted their lives.
A member of the state Assembly, representing Njikoka One Constituency, Dr Timothy Ifedioranma said Gov Obiano has combined his wealth of experience in human and material resource management with his humane disposition in the administration of the state and the result has been uncommon achievements for the citizens.
It would be recalled that Gov Obiano was earlier this year at the Eko hotels and Suites, Lagos, presented with the “Governor of the Year” Award by the SUN Publishing Company.
