Yuguda Sues APC Chieftain Over Defamation, Demands N10 Billion Damages

isa_yuguda_928691377Former Governor Mallam Isa Yuguda of Bauchi  State has  slammed a N10 million suit before the Bauchi state high court against an All Progressive Congress Chieftain Alhaji Sani Shehu  for alleged defamatory utterances against his personality and his administration ‎.

The Counsel to the plaintiff (Yuguda ) Barrister Okechukwu Nwaeze  told journalists in Bauchi ‎ that the former Governor is  seeking a N10 billion  damages in an action against Sani Mallam over his allegation that that Isa Yuguda is corrupt and fraudulent during his tenure as the Governor of Bauchi state‎.

Barrister Okechukwu said the plaintiff’s ‎complained of the APC chieftain over reckless and defamatory public comments on his personality and past administration on two radio stations of Ray power and BRC in the state.

The Counsel alleged that the Sani Mallam who was the former ANPP Chairman in the state has accused Yuguda “for performing woefully, that the former governor rather engaged in excessive looting of public treasury, calling him names such  election rigger and manipulator , all those statements tempered with the reputation and personality of the former Governor”

“It is not right to persecute people in the media if the man is guilty of any fraud, the defendant should provide the proof or otherwise focus on his political activities,” Nwaeze said.

The counsel to Yuguda said “our prayers are that the court should issue an order for the defendant to tendered apology in two national dailies and two Online‎ papers, the defendant should also be banned from featuring on such a political programes in media houses and pay the sum 10 billion naira damages to the plaintiff”

The Presiding Judge Justice Muazu‎ Abubakar has since adjoined the case to 6 October 2015 for mentioning.
