Akin Ogunbiyi, a governorship aspirant in Osun state on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was left disoriented as a meeting to enlist party chairmen from his federal constituency for a fresh plot to oust Sunday Bisi as chairman in the state went bad.
Ogunbiyi, who is not favourable to the continued stay of Mr Bisi in office, had sought to get PDP chairmen in Iwo, Aiyedire and Ola-Oluwa governments to sign a vote-of-no confidence as preparatory to his (Bisi) removal, but his proposition was flatly turned down by the three party chairmen.
A monetary reward of N250,000 each and a motorcycle could not persuade the defiant party chairmen who considers the move as an attempt to disorganize the party and scuttle chance in the upcoming governorship poll.
“It was really not a good experience for Akin (Ogunbiyi),” the source who is aware of the meeting told this reporter, noting that “If he (Ogunbiyi) knew that the chairmen would be averse to his plan, he would never have consider inviting them. The implication is that he (Ogunbiyi) does not have any support from home,” he stressed.
Another source detailed how the chairmen disagreed with Ogunbiyi’s approach to the PDP, with one of them raising that he (Ogunbiyi) was never available to the party when he is needed.
“Initially, they were careful in expressing their rejection on the plot to remove Bisi but at a point, one of them pointedly told him (Ogunbiyi) that it will not be possible for them to be on the same page with him as that would mean disorganizing Osun PDP,” the source who choose to be anonymous confided in this reporter.
“He went further to remind Ogunbiyi that he was never available for PDP, especially in the zone, when it mattered most, and that none of them is ready to be a tool in scuttling the chance of the party in the upcoming election.”
A visibly shattered Ogunbiyi, the source added, tried to persuade the chairmen on the need to rethink their opposition to his plan, explaining that his attitude to PDP in the past was as a result of how he could not get ticket to contest elections the last time.
He promised readiness to make up for past negligence and that with Wale Ojo as the chairman of PDP in the state will make his aspiration to become governor easier to achieve.
“But the chairmen are not convinced and maintained that they will not be part of anything that will hurt Osun PDP because their objective is to work for the party to win later this year,” a close ally of one of the chairmen disclosed.
