unnamedThe Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the implementation of last year’s national conference recommendations.

This formed part of the communique issued at the 2nd Oodua Progressive Union Europe Summit held at Frankermaheerd, Amsterdam, Holland.

The group appealed to the Yorubas, to irrespective of their religion, pray for the selection of the Ooni of Ife so that whoever eventually emerges would foster the progress and peace of Yoruba land and Nigeria.

“OPU Europe appeals to Yoruba all over the world to encourage their families to put on Yoruba attires most weekends and encourage their family to speak and eat Yoruba food especially in Diaspora,” said the document signed by Akogun Banji Ojo, Coordinator, Chief Victor Adewale, Deputy Coordinator and Sanni Olajide, General Secretary.

It further reads: “We call for the implementation of the report of the National Conference. It is the only way to move Nigeria as a country forward based on the structural imbalances that affect progress which brings suspicions and lack of trust within various ethnic groups in Nigeria.

“OPU calls on the government to expedite actions and facilitate more than two hundred girls that were kidnapped by the dreaded Boko Haram group over five hundred days ago

“OPU advises the southwest governors to establish a council of Obas of Yoruba land that will be rotated in every state that is the only way Yoruba can achieve the lost unity within Yoruba people”.

The group advised the Buhari administration to lay more emphasis on the security of lives and properties of the citizens and foreign nationals living in Nigeria for the sake of Nigeria’s image.
