Odigie-Oyegun-620x330Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South West geo-political zone on Tuesday debunked allegations of corruption against former governor of Edo State and national chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, saying Oyegun is running the party based on honesty and fairness.

“He is honest and has strong moral principles” the leaders said after an emergency stakeholders meeting in Lagos.

In a statement issued by the chairman, APC Harmony Group, Alhaji Tajudeen Balogun in Lagos, the leaders said detractors were bent on creating crisis in the party.

“For some people to say that the chairman should resign is to say the least unbelievable and uncalled for”.

Condemning hostile, rude, insensitive, arrogant and arbitrary mode of communication of those asking Oyegun to resign, the leaders advised them to define the objectives and strategies of their political struggle more clearly than degenerating to abuses, lies and wide allegations.

Finding a common voice on the need to move the country forward, they advised those flexing muscles to bury the hatchets in the interest of the party, absorb Oyegun’s culture of thinking and his approach to finding solutions to problems.

The leaders, who also commended the chairman for maintaining a sound administrative infrastructure appealed for an unflinching support and co-operation for him.

“Nigeria is in dire need of peace and unity and without them, the nation cannot make meaningful progress. We must therefore encourage President Muhammadu Buhari and Chief Odigie-Oyegun to unite all, win Bayelsa and Kogi states for APC and move the country forward. “

They also urged APC members in other geo-political zones to devote their energies to solving political issues.

“APC needs Oyegun more than he needs the APC. Oyegun wants to make APC stable. He spent an enormous amount of time and effort to make sure that APC won the 2015 elections. He is a master at using resources, including human resources, to accomplish goals. He has the ability to explain the need and how the goal could be accomplished. He is moving with great zeal and vigour to make the difference” they added.
