Yelwa Zangam , A Community Where Natives Were  Killed  For Refusing To Give Land For Burial In Plateau

Yelwa Zangam Community of Anaguta’s lives and properties were destroyed over a land dispute, has called on the federal government to come to their rescue.

 

The settlement is behind the University of Jos, they have donated their ancestral farmlands to the Muslim community in Jos North LGA to be used as a graveyard.

 

The information available to this medium revealed that when the graveyard was filled the Muslim community wanted to extend it, but they refused that it wasn’t part of the agreement reached, but since then the natives have been paying dearly with their lives even up to the extent of blocking them from accessing their farmlands.

 

On Monday before the ugly massacre, the Muslim community mobilized external forces to help them and the bridge connecting them to the neighborhood was destroyed by the assailants before killings the entire residents.

 

 

Speaking during Governor Simon Lalong visit to the community, Mr. Ateker Pada Bitrus who lost 9 members of his immediate family spoke on behalf of the survivors.

 

He appealed to the Governor to urgently address the Food crisis in the community following the destruction of their grains and their farmlands by Muslim youth.

 

He also requested on behalf of the community for the building of a police station to assist in responding to distress calls.

 

“You would recall, Plateau State House Assembly issue out an impeachment threat of Twp week to  Governor, Simon Bako Lalong that warranted on Sunday to embark on a visit to troubled areas of the State in the wake of the recent attacks in Bassa and Jos North local.

 

 

 

Governor Lalong expressing his condolences to the Anaguta nation sued for restraints expressing concern over those he described as using the deaths of the over 30 persons in the community to score political points.

 

 

The governor announced that the Federal and state government will mobilize relief materials that will be distributed beginning tomorrow (Monday) to the affected community while he expects more federal deployments of security personnel.

 

He thereafter took a tour of Yelwa Zangam to assess for himself the level of the carnage visited on the community
