YEDC Restores Electricity In Boko Haram Destroyed Towns

The management of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) in North-east on Tuesday announced that it has fully restored electricity in all the towns preciously captured towns by Boko Haram sects.

Their activities resulted in damaging most of the equipments of YDEC , warranting to no supply of electricity or minimal supply  in the towns of Mubi , Maiha, Madagali, Michika,Hong, Gombi and Garkida.

Electricity supply was disrupted in the area about a year ago following the annexation of the area by the insurgents who destroyed critical infrastructure belonging to the company.

The Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company Mr. Umaru  Mustapha who dropped the hint during a session with Journalists in Yola noted that very soon electricity will be restored in other liberated communities in the north east as part of the effort of the organization to revamp its operations.

He noted that what prompted his appointment by Federal Government was the need to salvage the company after the core investors demanded the Federal Government to grant them a force majeure due to the fact that it could not sustain its operations as a result of Boko Haram insurgency.

He pleaded with the Federal Government to intervene in restoring power to the areas destroyed by Boko Haram as he said such project is capital intensive.

Mustapha added that the purpose of his administration is to reposition the organization so that other core investors can take over from him noting that already his coming has started changing the face of the organization as the company supplies power to its customers for 18 to 20 hours daily.

Mustapha noted that within three months of his administration, the perennial low voltage in Wukari have been addressed noting that customers in the area have since started enjoying regular supply of electricity noting that very soon, other areas will be affected by the positive transformation.

He explained that the major reason leading to improvement of services is due to the zero tolerance of Buhari’s administration against corruption noting that since he came on board, it was no more business as usual noting that the company is still privately owned and take responsibility of its operations including payment of salaries.

He enjoined the staff to shun corruption noting that anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly.
