Nasarawa: NDLEA Nabs 589 Suspected Drug Barons, Secures Conviction Of 103 Persons

The Nasarawa State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA,, has arrested about five hundred and eighty-nine suspected illicit drug traffickers and substance abusers in the first half of 2026.

The Commandant, David Elisha, disclosed this to Journalists in Lafia, the State capital.

CN. Elisha said the Command has intensified its operational innovative response strategy to protect communities in the State from the devastating effects of illicit drugs and substance abuse.

Noting that the significant operational achievements saying, “A total of 589 suspects were arrested for various drug-related offences, comprising 568, males, 21 females” he explained.

The State Commander further disclosed that his men, also sized a total of 6,327.575 kilograms of assorted illicit drugs and controlled, substances, added  that 6,042.077 kg of Cannabis Sativa, 0.676 kg of Methamphetamine, 0.0237 kg of Crack Cocaine, 276.501kg of Psychotropic substances amongst others.

According to him, the quantum of seizures represent a significant disruption of drug trafficking network and prevented the large quantities of dangerous substances from circulating the streets and communities of the State and beyond.

In the area of prosecution, he affirmed that the Command  has secured the conviction of 103 offenders who received various jail terms, 96 cases already filled in court while 12 cases were pending before the court.

Commander Elisha, however said the fight against drug abuse can not be achieved through arrest and seizures alone but with the collaborative effort of all and sundry hence the need for sensitisation and advocacy.

“The command  has conducted a total of 429, sensitisation and advocacy programmes, reaching 123,492, persons comprising 52, 205 males and 71,288 females, carried out in schools worship centres on danger associated with drugs abuse” he explained.

He expressed his profound gratitude to the Executive Officer of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, General Buba Marwa, for his unwavering support in enhancing their operational effectiveness in the State.
