The wife of Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo (PDP), Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial district and the Chief Executive Officer of Unique Shi Humanitarian Foundation has cautioned the three inmates in Lafia Correctional Centre to turn a new leaf as they regain their freedom after years in custody.
Hajiya Amina Mohammed Onawo gave the charge when the Assistant Controller of Correctional Centre, ACC. Ali Mohammed Kida handed over a document of the three inmates who are about to regain their freedom in his office at the weekend.
The representative of the wife of the Senator and former zonal Woman leader, Sister Hanatu John who was accompanied by a team of members of the fourth estate of the realm warned them, Makama Hussaini of Lungun Wambai in Lafia, Hassan Ahmed of Kofar Sadami in Lafia and Umar Usman from Kosom community of Tunga, In Awe Local Government to turn a new leaf.
Hanatu who was in tears, prayed to God to reform them, She described the intervention of the wife of Senator Nasarawa South as a divine intervention to mankind.
Three of them during a confessionary statement Makama Hussaini revealed that he robbed a shop and was caught and brought to Correctional Centre.
He promised to be of good character and said he would never go back to crime again.
While Hassan Ahmed of Kofar Sadami who buttressed that he stole a mobile phone and was nabbed in the process, said he has changed by the grace of God.
Also, Umar Usman, a Fulani herder from Kosom in Tunga community of Awe Local Government confessed that he was brought to Correction because his father opposed him to selling his cattle which he did contrary.
According to him, “I insisted that I will sell my cow, but my father vehemently opposed that, He went ahead and handed me over to police.
He prayed to the facilitator of their release, The Jaruman Matan Doma, Hajiya Amina Mohammed Onawo for her humility, candor, and zeal to effect their freedom.
Hanatu John alongside, Hon. Mohammed Bashir Umar handed over food items and soft drinks to the Assistant Controller Correctional Centre, Lafia, the items included rice, 5 cartons of Mimee noddles,50 kg bag of maize flour, soft drinks, plastic water, Izal, Sanitizers.
A.C.C Ali Mohammed Kida in his response applauded stakeholders in the State for their unflinching support to inmates.
Kida commended the Chairman, the Council of Traditional Rulers, The paramount ruler of Lafia Justice Mohammed Sidi Bage, Retired and the wife of Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo for the kind gesture.
“Retired Justice is a man of his word, This Christmas, He provided rice and a cow to inmates, beside is always with his people in the Correction Day and night”.
He also eulogies the Minister of Interior for facilitating the release of 20 inmates recently by footing their bills which ranged from N100,000 to N1,000,000m
