Why Detained Nigerian Military Plane, 11 Soldiers- Burkina Faso

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) has reported that a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft was forced to land in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, on Monday after entering Burkinabe airspace without authorization.

According to a post on X shared by security analyst @BrantPhilip_, the aircraft, carrying two crew members and nine military passengers, reportedly declared an in-flight emergency before landing.

“The Confederation of Sahel States informs the opinion that an aircraft belonging to the Air Force of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, of type C130, was forced to land today, December 08, 2025, in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, following an emergency situation in flight, while it was operating in Burkinabe airspace,” the statement read.

The aircraft reportedly had two crew members and nine passengers, all of them military personnel.

Burkina Faso said an investigation was immediately launched by the competent authorities, which revealed that the aircraft lacked authorization to fly over Burkinabe territory.

“The Confederation of the Sahel States most strongly condemns this violation of its airspace and the sovereignty of its member states. Faced with this unfriendly act carried out in defiance of international law and international civil and/or military aviation rules, arrangements are made to guarantee the security of the Confederal airspace, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its Member States, as well as the safety of the Populations of the Confederation AES,” the statement added.

The statement further warned that, under instructions from the Heads of State, the region’s air and anti-aircraft defenses have been placed on maximum alert.

“These forces are authorized to neutralize any aircraft that violates confederal airspace, in line with the Declaration of the College of Heads of State dated December 22, 2024,” the statement sid.
