Vom Christian Hospital To Be Renamed, Karl Kumm University Teaching Hospital -COCIN General Secretary

With the approval by the National University Commission,(NUC) to Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, Karl Kumm University, Vom in Plateau State the Management has concluded a plan to renamed Vom Christian College to Karl Kumm University Teaching Hospital for the medical department.

 

The COCIN new General Secretary, Rev.Prof.Benjamin Pokol made this disclosure during his familiarization tour to all COCIN facilities in Plateau state.

 

He encouraged the staff of Vom Christian Hospital to exhibit love by demonstrating the same to their colleagues that would strengthen the of Christ in their daily conduct.

 

According to him, his interface with the staff today is to continue to encourage them, especially those of you who are working in sensitive areas that have direct contact with patients to help them recover fast through preaching the gospel honesty and transparency.

 

 

The medical superintendent, Vom Christian Hospital, Dr. Frederick .M. Dachung reeled out the history of Vom Christian Hospital that was established in 1922 to help in evangelism and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

 

He said, when I took over as the superintendent of Vom Christian Hospital I met discouraged staff with patients are desperate for medical attention and someone that was born in the hospital I carefully look into the strength and the challenges of each department.

 

And apart from the numerous challenges, Dr. Frederick explained that here in Vom, we had so many private Hospitals around and one big problem is that patients don’t pay their medical bills and some of disappearing after receiving medical treatment here, they prefer private Hospital unless they have complications that allow coming.

 

He added that the hospital had quite a number of patients during attacks owning the proximity between Jos North, Jos South, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom Local Government Areas when they’re injured they rush them here for medical attention but after discharging them nobody to settle all their bills.

 

Dr. Dachung disclosed the hospital expected support and partnership from local and international including NGOs to continue to provide services to the people even in the area of training of personnel for productivity.

 

He appealed to LGs that had not come to settle their medical bills to do so to help in meeting the yearning of the teeming rural populace.

 

Dr. Dachung emphasized there is transition within the church of Christ in Nations now apart from preaching the gospel, we also embark on training of personnel to meet up with the current global challenge of the physical and economic well-being of the society.

 

He called on the benefiting communities to contribute a significant sum to help the hospital function effectively and efficiently to reduce outbreaks of diseases ravaging us.

 

Dr. Dachung reiterated that in an ideal situation the proprietor of Vom Christian Hospital should get something from their investment here of which we are unable to do so because the church has grown internationally but lean resources had hampered the hospital function functioning.

 

This hospital is on a major road to Abuja we have accident victims as it is we need trauma and surgical centers to help turn around, however, with the coming of Karl Kumm university the vision and mission of having a medical college to train nurses, surgeon, pharmacist, dentist, lab scientist to handle patients will be address.

 

“We have strengthened partnership with Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH, to assist in sending our staff for a consultancy where they come around to see what they are doing so we had the opportunity to expose them to the rudiments of medical practice on rural health care delivery “, he stressed.

 

Dr. Dachung called for foreign partnership and to have an interactive sessions with them as we introduce some bills to the statehouse of the assembly towards remedying by asking for a percentage of the budget to be able to survive.

 

He maintained that the federal or state government can equally support equipment but there an internal crisis that is affecting the smooth running of the hospital.
