The Director Plateau State Human Rights Commission, Grace N.Pam has disclosed how some communities in Riyom Local Government Council have been conducting burials for the victims of child trafficking who are buried without human organs, they are those that were harvested for rituals and sent back home to die gradually in the hands of their hopeless parents in agony.
She appealed that the state is battling with high levels of poverty and parents are encouraging their underage children to go outside for manual labor and many of them became victims of domestic violence, and child abuse leading to the death of so many Plateau State indigene buried without organs.
Speaking to our correspondent in Jos during the Jos Film Initiative 2022 human rights film festival, Pam, explained that the organization had a lot of sensitization and enlightenment campaigns for the people.
She said, “I think is very sad indeed that Plateau state is said to be one of the States with the highest numbers of human trafficking of persons but I know most of the trafficking is local not like trafficking outside the country but within and even within the state including states in Nigeria, why is this so because of the incessant crises that bedeviled the state and citizens have found themselves in serious poverty “.
Grace Pam stated that therefore people also encourage their children to go outside to work especially underage children so you know any child below the age of 18 is underage.
However, she said, they are protected under the child rights act because those villagers or poor people lives found themselves cut off on the web of the deplorable state of the country, they live in poverty, and they themselves give out their children for trafficking as house help or for working with other people as domestic staff.
Secondly, Grace revealed that children themselves when they see others who went out to embark on these dirty shedding activities come back home looking very attractive and better than them wearing expensive attires then they would want to fix themselves and are also attracted to move out and live that kind of life and probably rebuke themselves as a failure.
She lamented that the situation of internally displaced people living in camps in Plateau state forces their children to go outside for manual labour and are mostly killed or used for rituals by their masters because they leave in such horrific environments they need to survive at all cost.
Grace cautioned that trafficking of persons is prevalent in Plateau state with crisis and poverty which the state government has not done enough of, especially in the area of prosecution of the culprit of those innocent children that trafficked.
She frowned that, some parents don’t know that this act is affecting the lives of these children and you see most of them are suffering from the psychological trauma of depression some were injured and they have their organs harvested for rituals and they come back home as a result lost their lives because they’re not been taken CARE by the state to prosecute.
Pam stressed that our criminal legal system is very, very slow even though they arraigned the culprit in court the case is not handled on time no speeding dispensation of justice had caused a whole lot but what we do in our office, we sometimes handle it through mediation and pick those children by rescuing them from home such that they’re abuse where they traffic them then return them back to the parents.
The Human Right Film Festival has recorded the highest human trafficking and organs harvest recruitment, local and internationally in three Local Government Councils of Plateau State since the return of democracy in 1999 from the aftermath of Jos crises in Riyom, Bassa, and Quaanpan with impunity of victims buried without some of their organs.
Plateau state is one of the states experiencing high levels of transportation, transfer, harbouring, or receipt of people through force, fraud, or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit due poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment rate in the present dwindling economic situation.
According to her, Men, women, and children of all ages and from all can become victims of this crime, which occurs in every region of the world.
Human-Trafficking – Plateau State, this year’s maiden film festival Pam says is aimed at addressing the country’s plight of child trafficking also decried that plateau state rank the highest in local trafficking out of the 36 States including Abuja because they are traffic for manual labourers in the country.
She said the high rate of unemployment and poverty have shut down the many children being trafficked in Plateau one such target that traffickers easily come to is Maranba Ja’amai where a high child trafficking site in Jos South LGA.
The state enjoys the abuse of children being sent to Eastern, and Western parts of Nigeria some even export them to neighboring countries and emphasized that teenage pregnancy is rampant where underage girls are used for sex, she added.
However, the ages of those who are engaging in human trafficking are between 12 to 16 years.
One of the panelists emphasized that those who are engaging in this human trafficking won’t want peace because during the crises they take advantage to perpetual their heinous crimes.
These girls slept with more than 10 -12 men a day including humus sexualized are exported outside Nigeria to Saudi Arabic for sex.
Pam advocated that it is time to begin planning on how to rescue these girls, they are taken for trafficking in Abuja boys humus sexual is on the rise.
She gave experience on how they fish out the girls and lure them into the activities of trafficking, their voices are drawn with expensive lifestyles attracting more of the youths into crime and criminality.
Of those that were trafficked, many have lost their lives, some died on the high sea whose aim is to get rich quick, because the majority of those embarking on Europe end up being dead, killed, or turned into prostitution and arm robbery.
