The contractor handling a multi-million naira electrification of villages in Jos North, Jos South and Bassa Local governments have abandoned the projects sites, even as this medium learnt that equipment worth billions were stolen by a group of syndicates in connection with security apparatus in the area.

It also gathered that people in Miango junction,Rukuba in Dong Kasa  Area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state has alleged that security agencies and NEPA officials allegedly  vandalized PHCN equipment worth millions of  naira and also accused Speaker ,Rt Hon peter Azi for not fulfilling the communities which he promised them toward networking the communities  in his electioneering campaign period.

The coordinator of the electric city black out community of  Dong Kasa of Miango junction, Rukuba road (JCR) ,Chief John Nkwa who disclosed this while speaking to our correspondent in Jos on Saturday over the plight of the people residing in those community.

He said, the above communities which is situated within the suburb of Jos city has not been connected with electricity supply for the pass forty years (40) . As this affected communities observed ,there’s no communities within any state capital in Nigeria that is not connected with electricity except this community called Dong Kassa ,Magingi areas .

He reiterated that both past politicians and present have been making frantic promises to connect the light during their electioneering campaign but when they succeed after their campaign you cannot see them again.

Even the present Speaker of the House of Assembly, Right, Hon, peter Azi who happen to be the son of the community promised that when voted to office he will make the connection, but when he entered the office: told the communities that it is not his responsibility to connect the light.

Nkwa maintained that; “Last year in 2015 we eventually saw electric poles being fixed passing through the community ,there was full of jubilation from all over the place as final hope of getting light has come their way through national integrated power project they went as far as putting small sizes of transformers on each of the poles mounted.

Investigation by this medium revealed that, since then there has not been any connection of the light .in this year 2016 the community discovered that hoodlums started vandalizing the small transformers by removing some important components inside.

According to the coordinator, the vigilante personals made efforts and arrested some of them who made a promise earlier that before the end of this year they will remove all the installed transformers.

When the leadership of these communities reported this matter to PHCN now Jos Electricity Distribution Company,) they will say that; “ the projects is not their property because it has not been handed over to them and it is understandable that if one doesn’t have knowledge of electric, he or she cannot temper with electrical apparatus .

Nkwa stated that the suspects who were arrested has been those who are always found of vandalizing the electric city in this Jos and its environs.

“These seem to be a lot of conveyance between the NEPA, PHCN and Nigerian police and the perpetrators of this heinous act because once they are arrested, next thing the will be given bail within some few days of their detention.

Nkwa said, worried with this the situation, the big question here now is why is it that no one is in charge of this precious and important government properties which its worth is in billions ,if not huge amount of  money has been spent on it.

Mr Nkwa condemned that the sub-station of stations of the NIPP here has been vandalized totally and all those vital components therein has been removed without any person to account of it and nowhere to complain.

The leaders of the communities said, “if the government really want to know about the properties of the NIPP being  stolen away ,those who has been arrested and released recently should be brought back even if they were released on bail or not .”

“Those suspects know their receivers .Those receivers are staying in the following areas in Jos here, one at Magingi Bassa LGA, another one at Kowa Hotel Area Rukuba road Jos.

The leader of the vandalization operation lives beside a River connected to St Joseph Block industry, while coming down from Tudun wada direct he is having his very large compound that was built with the proceeds from electric city vandalization because he has been long in the business.

Recently when he was about to be arrested by the vigilante people his boys overpowered the vigilante and seized him from them.”

“We in this community want to know whether we no longer belong to Nigeria , We appeal to the government to fish out whoever is responsible for the NIPP projects and intentionally neglected it without putting any security personal to guard the place which led to the loss of the whole government properties as if nobody owns it ,such person should be made to face the wrath of the law no matter how highly placed.
