The Management Committee Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Hon Shehu Bala Usman has described the act of violence on innocent commuters as unacceptable and condemned the act as barbaric.
He cautioned religious leaders to preach love and unity especially to the inhabitants of the area against the temptations of taking the law into their hands.
He noted that any person or group found in connection with such attacks shall be dealt with squarely within the ambits of the law.
The Council says it will not tolerate any further attempt from any individuals or groups of persons to disrupt the already established peace and peaceful coexistence of its citizens in the area.
Philip Eplong, the Senior Information Officer Jos North Local Government in a press statement made available to our medium in Jos said; “ the warning came on the heels of the reported skirmishes around Rukuba road in Jos where some persons were reportedly killed including innocent commuters.”
Usman appreciated the relentless effort of Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state for putting every mechanism in place to ensure prompt attention and reaction to any security breach in the state.
The Chairman commended the police and other law enforcement agencies for their prompt response in averting the escalation of the violence, urging them to put in every effort to apprehend perpetrators of the heinous act to justice.
The statement further noted that the high level of savagery, inhumanity, and reckless disregard for the sanctity of life cannot go unpunished.
The statement stated further that the authorities of Jos North Local Government appeals for calm and urged citizens to go about their normal businesses, adding that the council shall continue to work closely with security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property of its citizens.
