donates N20 towards medical library at Lady of Lourdes Hospital

The Anambra State Government has said it will continue to support health institutions in the state to be at their best in training the required manpower for the state’s health sector.

The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano stated this when he inaugurated the Doctors’ Quarters and Female Hostel at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala yesterday.

The projects, done under the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, with support from the State Government, was commenced by the previous administration and completed by the incumbent Obiano administration.

The health facility comprised of the School of Nursing, School of Midwifery and the School of Medical Laboratory Technicians.

Inaugurating the projects, Gov Obiano donated the sum of N20m towards the Ultra-modern Library Project of the hospital, which is a prerequisite for the Accreditation of the health facility.

According to him, the gesture is consistent with his administration’s efforts at ensuring that Health institutions in the State secure the required accreditation to operate at full capacity.

Gov Obiano charged students of the institution to imbibe the mindset of service and be dedicated to their studies, noting that his administration is committed to sustaining the partnership with the mission in the health and education sectors.

In his address, the Managing Director and CEO of the Hospital, Rev Fr Ugochukwu Onuorah said the State Government’s grant to the hospital has helped upgrade their facilities as well as placed the hospital in a better position to provide quality health services to people of the area. He solicited the government’s assistance towards their accreditation bid.

In their remarks, the State Vice Chairman, Nigeria Redcross Society, Prof Peter Katchy and an APGA Chieftain, Chief Titus Anigbogu described continuity as a very difficult thing in governance, and hailed the Governor’s decision to continue where his predecessor stopped, adding that what the State has gained is sustainability in all its ongoing developmental projects.

The Catholic Bishop of Nnewi, Most Rev Hillary Odili-Okeke expressed appreciation to the State Government for its collaboration with the mission to uplift the health standards of the people and prayed God to grant the Governor wisdom to continue to administer the affairs of the State in the most impactful way.
