The Lagos State Government has announced that the proposed closure of the Third Mainland Bridge from midnight of Friday, 19th, to midnight of Sunday 21st February, 2021, has commenced.

A release of the closure earlier signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, said the bridge will be closed to all vehicular movement to enable the contractor to set the expansion joint concrete without vibrations in order to achieve the desired strength of the structure.

He also said that the concrete would have to mould for three to four days before the preparations to finally re-open the entire bridge to traffic, adding that the casting was also slated for this weekend to reduce traffic congestion along the axis for motorists.

The Commissioner, therefore, advised Motorists coming from Ogudu, Alapere and Gbagada to use Ikorodu Road, Jibowu and Yaba as alternative routes, while Iyana Oworoshoki-bound traffic from Lagos-Island, Iddo, Oyingbo, Adekunle and Yaba are enjoined to use Herbert Macaulay Way, Jibowu and Ikorodu Road as alternative routes.

Oladeinde assured that traffic management personnel have been deployed along the affected routes to minimise and address any traffic impediments during the closure.

Commending Lagosians for their patience and cooperation towards developing the State, the Commissioner affirmed that the projects are in line with the actualisation of the Lagos Smart City vision.
