KOGI STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY LOKOJA. Date 26th July 2016.
Office of the Honourable Speaker .
The clerk of the house, Kogi state of Assembly
Lokoja.
RESIGNATION LETTER
It is in total submission to the will of Almighty Allah and in the overall interest of the good people of Kogi State that I,Rt. Hon. Momohjimoh Lawal, tender my resignation today, 26th July, 2016 as Speaker Kogi State House of assembly. We are all aware of the needless pains, the leadership crisis that had engulf this noble assembly in the past few months caused our constituents and retarded the development of our beloved State Kogi. I would have preferred to continue with the struggle for the entrenchment of the democratic values, but the Interest of Kogi State must always come before any personal considerations. Let me quickly add that I am not a quitter but as the leader of this noble house, I must put Kogi state first.
Today, my resignation as speaker of this house was a difficult decision but I do believed, it is the right thing to do. This I am sure will bring joy to some and anger to others. To those who believed in legislative democracy, I do understand your anger and frustrations. To my honourable colleagues who stood by me in the struggle to uphold the sanctity of the legislature, I thank you and will forever cherish your love and solidarity.
To the Judiciary, I doff my hat for believing in the tenets of democratic values and to my constituents I share in your frustrations, and pledge to devote the rest of my legislative tenure to serve you better.
To my good friends in the media profession, I sincerely thank you for your support and understanding. Above all, Almighty Allah, I appreciate your preservation and protection over every one of us I in this Chamber and our families.
Lastly to the staff of this assembly, I must sincerely thank you all. May I at this Juncture, urge the next leadership and Honourable members of this house to join hand with my brother, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi state to move the state forward.
I want to urge us all to use my resignation to heal, not to hate so that we can collectively move the state forward for a better tomorrow, a better Kogi State. God bless you all and thank you for this wonderful opportunity to serve as your speaker.
Rt. Hon. Momohjimoh Lawal
Speaker Kogi state House of Assembly
