Taraba PDP Suspends Official Over Suspension Of Ex-Commissioner

The Executives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kassa ‘A’ Ward of Yorro Local Government Area, Taraba State have suspended the local government party chairman, Anthony David for suspending David Ishaya the commissioner of agriculture in the last administration.

The suspension is contained in a statement signed by officials of the ward.

According to the statement, the suspended chairman who hails from the ward is to report to the disciplinary committee of the ward to answer questions regarding his actions that are detrimental to the interest of the party.

The statement further directed him to hand over all documents and other belongings of the party in his possession to his deputy with immediate effect.

“Arising from an emergency meeting of the Ward Executives on Saturday, the 12-member executives suspended Mr. Anthony David and directed him to immediately handover all properties of the party in his possession and desist from parading himself as a member of PDP until he cleared himself before the ward disciplinary committee.”

Mr. Ishaya’s ‘suspension’ was announced last week by Mr. David who said Ishaya was suspended from the party owing to his anti-party activities during the recently held general elections in the state.

The ward executives, however, kicked against the suspension, saying only the party’s ward could suspend him.

“By clear provisions of Articles 8(3), (9), Article 57 (1)(2) (4) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (As amended) only the Ward Executives have the power to register members at Ward level, initiate any disciplinary proceedings and suspend or expel a member. The Local Government Executives have no power to suspend a member of the Party.

“We the Kassa ‘A’ Ward Executives of PDP, Yorro Local Government Area led by the Ward Chairman Geoffrey Mading affirm the membership status of Ishaya, he is a pride of PDP in Yorro local government who has worked tirelessly for the party and contributed immensely to the growth and development of the party. 

“In the exercise of the powers of the ward executives, the perpetrators of this will-fated malicious and baseless, press release against our leader are hereby recommended for disciplinary action by the party at Ward level.

“Accordingly, David who is a member in the same PDP Kassa ‘A’ Ward, is hereby suspended from the party for abuse of office and total disregard to the party laws, and he is requested to avail himself before the disciplinary committee of the ward.” The statement read.

While clearing Ishaya of any anti-party activities in the last election as alleged by David the ward executives said the PDP won the governorship election in the ward with 2,178 votes making it the best result in the 11 wards of the local government area.
