Super Eagles, Falcons make final shortlist for CAF Team of the year

Nigeria’s senior national men and women teams the Super Eagles and the Super Falcons have both been included in the final shortlist for the CAF National Team of the year award.

Nigeria will therefore be in contention for the best national team awards in both categories at the CAF awards which takes place at the Palais des Congrès, Marrakech on Monday, December 16, 2024.

The Super Eagles will contend with AFCON 2023 winners Ivory Coast, and South Africa while the Super Falcons have Morocco and the Banyana Banyana of South Africa to beat to the award.

The Super Eagles were nominated due to their exploits in the AFCON held in Ivory Coast earlier in the year, qualifying from their group and defeating Cameroon, Angola, and South Africa before losing to the hosts narrowly in the final of the tournament. They also finished top of their group in qualifying for AFCON 2025.

The Super Falcons on the other hand, hoisted the continent’s flag at the Olympics where they lost to powerhouses, Brazil, Spain and Japan in the group stages.

Nigeria is also hugely represented in the contest for individual awards.

The ceremony which will be hosted in the beautiful city of Marrakech will be attended by football stakeholders from across the continent and beyond, as well as legendary players and some of Africa’s finest current stars.
