Stop The Incessant Killings Of Nigerians, Ex-Plateau Speaker Peter Azi Advise Gunmen

The former Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Peter Ajang Azi has condemned the killings in his village, Dong and Kwi by calling on fellow Nigerians to realize that no one has the right to take the life of another person except is been pronounced by the court of law.

 

Azi made this known in an exclusive interview with our correspondent at his residence in Utan, Jos North Local Government Council of Plateau state yesterday.

 

He frowned at the insecurity situation across the country where people are being killed without respect to the sanctity of human life, it is enshrined in our holy books that no one has the power to take the life of fellow man.

 

Hon Peter Azi charged politicians contesting for various elective positions to know that stealing votes to declare a winner in an election is wrong is only God that gives power to whoever he chooses.

 

He advised the political class to always adhere to the rules of the game by not taking the results of another person.

 

Azi urged journalists in the country, not to escalate the current tension in Nigeria and they shouldn’t be malicious in their reportage, but to ensure that they’re objective, balance, and accurate during reporting issues that affected our nation.

 

 

Speaking further on the forthcoming bye-election in Jos North /Bassa Federal Constituency, Hon Peter Azi said the vacant position needs to be occupied, so the electorates are expected to vote for another person to fill in the vacant position.

 

According to him, the constituent is very sad over the demise of their representative described the death of late Hon Haruna Maitala as shocking to entire people but is God that gives life and he can take it anytime.

 

He disclosed that the issue regarding zoning the seat to Bassa LGA to complete the remaining tenure, Azi said when the party sample the opinion of the aspirants they discovered that nobody was willing to shift position so they agreed to allow all the aspirants to contest and test their popularity at the poll.

 

However, the party suggested to them, but since they vehemently objected to the decision so we have no reason whatsoever to allow all the aspirants to contest for it, he added.

 

Hon Peter Azi emphasized that President Buhari the issue of bringing in caretaker committee Chairmen is gone we most have democratically elected chairmen in all the Local governments in Nigeria since when the tenure of the present chairmen elapse we have conducted a fresh election.

 

The APC government has insisted on following the tenets of true democracy to allow people to choose their leaders, under the present government we must elect candidates of our choice, he noted.

 

Azi stressed that too much killing, it is unfortunate that some people indulge in taking the life of others, but that is a very unfortunate act of callous dastardly act of inhumanity against man.

 

He appealed to Nigerians that the security of lives is every man’s business so people should wake up and report any strength, movement, or bad eggs in our society to curtail the incessant attacks and killing.

 

Azi called on Nigerians to organize and defend their community against external aggression because the number of security personnel in Nigeria is inadequate to be everywhere to protect the lives and property of the citizenry.

 

He maintained is only the court of law can be pronounced a death sentence on a fellow man apart from our court of law so we must stop this barbaric act.
