Shiites Sue Nigeria Army Over Illegal Arrest Of Members

The members of the Shiites in Plateau State have sued the Commander of the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major-General Anthony Atolakpe, over what they claimed unlawful arrest and detention of their members.

 

The suit which came up for hearing, before Justice Muhammad Sirajo, of the State high Court 3, was adjourned to the 19 June, 2018, to allow defense counsel replied to the suit.

 

The suit filed by detained plaintiffs, Idris Muhammad and Auwal Usaini, are seeking for the enforcement of their fundamental human rights, as allegedly violated by men of the security outfit serving under Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

 

The duo averred that they were on the 31st March, 2018 arrested when they went to sweep off their destroyed place of worship sometimes back at Anguwan Rogo, and “unlawfully kept under detention at the OPSH, headquarters for more than two months.”

 

The plaintiffs were also seeking for an order of the court directing the OPSH to release them,  and also pay damages to the tune of 2 million Naira.

 

The Plaintiffs’ counsel Barrister, Panshak Pampe, told our correspondent out of court that, his clients have been kept unlawfully and are being tortured.

 

He said their families are not allowed to see them, “not until when we have instituted the suit.”
