Seven Persons Electrocuted In Plateau By Sparking High Tension Cables

At least no fewer than seven people have been confirmed dead and some others injured due to an electrocution that occurred at Kabong, Gada Biyu in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The fire incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, was attributed to a high-tension cable that bridged with service wires that supplied electricity to the community, resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of properties.

The Kabong community of Jos North Local Government Council of Plateau State in the early morning of Saturday witnessed the influx of sympathizers across the neighboring settlement.

The wires connecting the high-tension cable were said to have cut off and landed on the neutral cable which immediately sparked off a fire that resulted in heavy inferno assumed to have been spreading to private houses of over 100 residents.

Eyewitness, disclosed that most of the people were still in bed when the incident occurred leaving many families scrambling for their safety.

They said, two family members Senior and Junior brothers were amongst died as the fire from the sparked wires cable connected their door blocking the entire room with smoke.

One of the deceased family members blamed the Jos Distribution Company, JED, for the unstable power supply and the manner they sometimes take light and restore it when people are sleeping, adding that it led to present damage and disaster experienced.

According to them, there were many victims of the inferno in hospitals where they rushed for treatment but the doctors confirmed seven (7) dead people whose bodies were already deposited in the mortuary.

They are appealing to the appropriate authority to take action to curtail incidents of high voltage and ensure that JED checks all connections before supplying a power supply.

Our correspondent gathered that mourners are trooping the affected homes to pay their last respects to the deceased families on Saturday high tension wires.
