Senator Hunkuyi Visits Patients In ABU Teaching Hospital Calls For Serious, Sincere Concern For The Less Privileged

Senator Sulaiman Hunkuyi representing Kaduna North Senatorial District in the Senate has called for serious and sincere commitment and concern for the less privileged.
Senator Hunkuyi who made this known when he visited patients in Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria said there is need for holistic approach in addressing the challenges facing the common people in the society.
Earlier, Senator Hunkuyi who is the Chairman Senate Committee on National Identity and National Population as well as Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs flagged off his free medical programme at the Ahmadu University Teaching Hospital.
According to Hunkuyi, the free medical program is of different stages.
However, the one he flag off today will involve about 500 people with eye related problems receive free medical attention, including eye surgery.
He said there was a preliminary screening which took place in the 8 “local government, namely, Zaria, Sabon Gari, Kubau, Lere, Kudan, Makarfi, Soba and Ikara LG.
The patients are also subjected to further screening, by medical experts in the teaching hospital to determine, who will go for eye surgery, spectacles or receive medication.
The first phase according to him, will last for about 10 days.
The second phase of the free medical programme will involve general surgery and about 500 people within his Senatorial District will be the beneficiaries.
Asked if the project is being funded in collaboration with government or other organizations, Hunkuyi said he did not get a kobo from any level of government as he decided to embark on such projects out of his desire to touch the lives of the people particularly, the less privileged.
Hunkuyi was taking to various wards and sections of the hospital by the Chief Medical Director of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, Prof Khalid Lawan.
He personally interacted with many patients.
