Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi representing Kaduna North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate has setup a committee on Security and Education with a view to address the problems of the sectors in his zone.
Speaking on his recent activities as a Senator representing Kaduna Zone A (Kaduna North Senatorial District), Hunkuyi said pressing need of security and education informed his decision.
While explaining further on the recent activities of Senator Hunkuyi since he assumed office on June 9, 2015, Alhaji Abubakar Yerima Bomo, Director General in charge of Hunkuyi’s Constituency Office also said the need to address the issue of security as well as youth development led to the constitution of committees on security and education.
On security, Yerima Bomo said Senator Hunkuyi decided to setup a committee on security with the aim of collaborating with the various security agencies in the zone in order to address the challenges of security in Kaduna Zone A.
He said “When Senator Hunkuyi assumed office, the first thing he did was to create constituency office in Zaria. This office consists of the Director General, Administrative Secretary, Receptionist, Confidential Secretary among others.
“To address the issue of security challenges, Senator Hunkuyi setup a security committee. The committee is collaborating with the various security agencies particularly, Nigerian Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.”
He said local vigilante are also being encouraged to tackle the issue of insecurity in the zone.
According to him, nine (9) Gulf Cars, forty (40) Boxer Motorcycles as well as different kinds of security gadgets have been purchased and distributed for security purpose in Kaduna Zone A.
Speaking on the education and youth empowerment, he said the importance of education in growth and development of the society informed the decision of senator Suleiman Hunkuyi to setup a committee on education.
He said “When a Committee on Education was setup, the less privileged people, particularly students from poor background were considered for sponsorship at various tertiary institutions.
“For this year, 182 students were considered for sponsorship throughout their academic programme.”
He said the number of the students were drawn from the eight (8) local government areas in the zone. These include Zaria, Sabon-Gari, Kudan, Makarfi, Soba, Ikara, Kubau and Lere, Local Government Areas.
According to him, Joint Admission and Matriculations Board, JAMB’s forms for entry examinations were purchased for the selected students.
He said Senator Hunkuyi will take care of their school fees throughout their academic programme.
Yerima Bomo said “Having realized that we lack female doctors, Senator Hunkuyi decided to sponsor some female students overseas to study medicine.
He noted that ten (10) female students have been selected to study medicine in the Islamic University of Uganda.
He revealed that Hunkuyi is also collaborating with various institutions in Kaduna Zone A to consider the youths from the zone for admission and employment where necessary.
He further said there is a plan by Hunkuyi to establish a skill acquisition programme where several youths and women will be trained in various fields and given assistance to start their business.
Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, a grassroots politician won the March 28, 2015 parliamentary election in Kaduna North Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC. He defeated Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a two times Governor of Kaduna State (1999-2007) and representative of Kaduna Zone A in the Senate (2007-2015).
