The Senate has passed a resolution directing the National Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to victims of windstorms in Nasarawa’s southern senatorial district.

This followed a motion of urgent importance sponsored by Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District during senate proceedings this week

Senator Ogoshi Onawo in the motion said the windstorm affected over one hundred residential houses, public and private structures that include schools, health facilities, and places of worship, causing devastating and untold hardship.

He in addition said the windstorm also affected economic trees as well as the loss of life in Iponu.

He appealed to the Senate to as a matter of necessity and urgency come to the rescue of those affected by the disaster so that the victims can start a new beginning, having been displaced from their ancestral abode.

Senator Onawo mentioned communities affected by the disaster, including Agbashi and Iponu in Doma,  Aloshi and Keana in Keana, and Awe Local Government Areas in the senatorial zone of Nasarawa state.

Ogoshi Onawo and his colleague of Nasarawa Western District Aliyu Wadada, could be recalled, shortly after the incident went on an assessment visit to the affected communities and made cash donations as a temporary measure before the Government and other relevant bodies could come up with assistance.
