In 2016, the Zamfara State government said it expended N26 billion on its semi urban water scheme, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muttaka Rini, said, according to Daily Trust report.
The Commissioner Alhaji Muttaka also said the projects are to be carried out across the 14 local government areas of the state, adding that they consist of 84 units with each area having six units with 450 cubic meters overhead tank.
Again in January, 2017, the Zamfara State Government stated that it has released N400 million as counterpart fund for the implementation of Sanitation, Hygiene and Water in Nigeria (SHWAN II ) projects for 2016/2017 in the state.
With the above assertion, what it means is that in terms of portable water, the state are no having problem with it, however following a new report emanating from Daily Nigerian, an online newspaper, those assertion may after all not be true, as information gathered by the online news medium through a citizen reporter shows different.
Writing on his Facebook timeline, Mr Mansur, said: “This is the kind of potable water the government is supplying to the masses despite the huge amount it receives from the federal government.”
Also commenting on the photos, another Facebook user Mansur Isah Buhari mockingly said: “In preparation for Ramadan, Zamfara people will only need to turn on the tap during iftar for hot Ovaltine to break their fast? I hear that there’s even an option for hot or cold. Eehhhn! Zamfara Governor is working. I’m relocating to Zamfara.”
Commenters also argue that another disease outbreak would occur if government would be pumping contaminated water to taps for drinking.
He did not also respond to text message sent to his number.
