Security: Bauchi NSCDC Trains Officers On Counter Terrorism Intelligence

The Bauchi State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has started the training of its intelligence officer on counter terrorism intelligence gathering to combat security threats.

The officers were drawn from the various units under the command.

In his opening remarks, the Bauchi ‎State commandant of the NSCDC, Ibrahim Raji said that the aim of the seminar for the intelligence officer is to encourage them to adopt proactive measures against security threats.

Raji, who was represented by Deputy Commandant, Idris Adam noted that as criminals adopt new strategies becoming sophisticated, the NSCDC must also rise up to the challenges and become proactive through effective intelligence gathering mechanism for effective utilisation.

He therefore urge the participants to sharpen their intelligence gathering skills and go with the changing times and the use of technology in their activities.

While speaking, the guest of honour and Special Adviser to governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar on security, General Ladan Yusuf (Rtd) said that in the present dynamic and technologically sophisticated world, criminals are posing increasing threats in many parts of the world.

“If the society is moving fast, we should not allow the dust to cover our eyes. If the criminals are changing fast, we must also move fast,”he said.

Addressing the participants, the head of training, NSCDC Bauchi State command, CSC Garpiya Nabalga said that the Corps is empowered by the NSCDC Act 2003 and 2007 as amended to monitor, investigate and forestall any planned act of terrorism and report to the appropriate security agency.

“This we can achieve through proactive, effective and efficient security surveillance. The idea behind this seminar is to develop capabilities for surveillance with the view to generating intelligence to mitigate and respond to security threat.

“We start first by understanding, discussing and analysing the security narratives that brought Nigeria to alleged insecurity both at strategy and tactical levels,”he said.

He therefore said that there is need to incorporate and enrol more citizens into the fight against terrorism and other criminalities in the country.

“Accordingly, there is need for Bauchi State government to consider improving on the efficiency of Danga Security and other vigilante groups by sponsoring a training for this groups in collaboration with Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Bauchi Command,”he said.
