Save the Children International (SCI), in partnership with GHIV Africa and funded by the Canadian government through Global Affairs Canada, has rehabilitated a health facility in Song Gari, Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The project was carried out under the Malnutrition and Protection Lifesaving Emergency (MAPLE) and International Humanitarian Assistance (IHA) programmes. It aims to improve healthcare delivery, particularly for women, children, and adolescents, while addressing malnutrition and other critical health challenges.

Speaking at the inauguration, Felix  Tangwami the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, represented by Zirra Bubanani, the Permanent Secretary, commended Save the Children and its partners for their efforts.

He noted that the project is already improving access to quality healthcare in the area.

Adding that such collaborations align with the vision of Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri to ensure accessible, equitable, and quality healthcare for all residents of the state.

The commissioner also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining and safeguarding the facility for community use.

Earlier, Michael Drankrd, the Project Manager, said the upgraded clinic will help reduce suffering, improve human dignity, and save lives, especially among children, women, and adolescents.

The renovated facility now includes improved water and sanitation services, with a functional borehole that provides water round the clock. It also offers hygiene education, particularly for women and adolescent girls.

In his remarks, Malam Abdulrashid Muhammad the Adamawa State Team Lead for Save the Children, appreciated the state government for its support. He noted that although the project is concluding in Song LGA, it has significantly improved healthcare delivery in the area with funding from the Canadian government.

He added that the intervention also included training over 70 stakeholders on health-related issues, supporting 250 adolescent girls with hygiene education and sanitary kits, and empowering 93 households with financial assistance.

A similar rehabilitated clinic was also inaugurated in Dumne, within Song Local Government Area, under the same partnership.
