Salary Deduction: NULGE, Bauchi Government Reaches Accord

The state secretary, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Bauchi state chapter Muhammad Shuaibu Oruma has said, the Union and Government have signed an agreement stopping further deductions of its members salaries.

The secretary made the statement while speaking to newsmen in Bauchi at the weekend, he said the measure is to avoid industrial action in the interest of the parties’ commitment to ensure good working environment for NULGE staff in the state.

He explain that poor communication between the Union and government brought the illegal deductions of Salaries belonging to NULGE members as the Union was not inform before the deductions.

” It was unfortunate the our members salaries were deducted by government initially without due process in consultations with the NULGE stating its poor financial status, under the Union threaten strike action then the government made its positions known” said Oruma.

Part of the accord reached according to the state secretary was that hence forth, no further deductions to NULGE staff salary as contains in the civil service rules without any prior notice from government.

Government Oruma stress have also agreed to pay backlog of salaries deduction and arrears of its members appreciative of the financial statuesquo of the state.

The NULGE scribe noted with pleasure the deputy governor’s directive to the head of service to submit to his office, all the concrete demands and challenges being face by NULGE towards productivity and to cultivate good rapport with the Union.

He regretted  NULGE’s strikes in the past and attributed same to insensitivity on the part of government in the past assuring that the current  intervention made by FG is a good omen not only to NULGE members in the country.

He opined for local government autonomy through the immediate abolition of joint account policy describing it as a conduit pipe for politician in the country.

He therefore urged its members to remain calm with a view to expecting the fruits of the agreement reached before the Union and government of the day.
