Rights Group Petitions Buhari, Ambode IGP, PSC, Others Over Torture 21-Year-Old Carpenter To Death By ASP, Four Others
- Demands Justice for deceased family
A rights group under the aegis of Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase, Police Service Commission (PSC), Nigeria Police Council (NPC), Police Affairs Commission(PAC) and host of others over an alleged torturing of 21-Year-old Carpenter, Ganiyu Akinyemi to death by Kazeem Salawu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP) and four others at Aboru area of Lagos State.
The rights group also forwarded the copies of the petition to the President Muhammadu Buhari,Lagos State governor ,Mr Akinwumi Ambode, leadership of the National Assembly, National Human Rights Commission (HNRC), International Community and others, calling on the Police authority to properly follow the section 316 to 324 of the criminal code cap;”C38” with case and materials extras, laws of the federation 2004/2010 including questions and answers for police colleges act in this matter of Kazeem Salawu and his cohorts.
It however demanded justice for the family of deceased, urging the Police authority in the country to ensure that justice was prevailed in the matter no matter whose ox is gored, adding that the Police authority in the land should also ensure that the other two suspects that were yet to be arrested, get arrested by the Police officers in charge of the matter in the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to the petition dated Tuesday 29TH December, 2015 and titled: ” Report of Mr. kazeem Salawu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP) attached to Ogun State Police Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Akeem Olatunbosun, Fuadh Omifioye, Yusuff (aka lemmy) and one other that were arrested for illegal and unlawful torturing of a 21-year-old carpenter, Ganiyu Akinyemi to death at Omifioye avenue ,Ago Estate,Aboru, Lagos State. Why Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice(CHRSJ) wants thorough investigation and your office proper intervention and true justice for the family of Ganiyu Akinyemi”, which was signed by the CHRSJ’s Executive Chairman,Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman and a copy was made available to newsmen in Lagos State yesterday.
Comrade Sulaiman urged the Police authority to warn the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) not to do anything that would pervert cause of justice on this mind boggling matter.
The petition reads in part: “CHRSJ as a law abiding human rights group will not to allow the matter to be swept under the carpet until the perpetrators of the dastard act was brought to justice and we would not do anything to jeopardize the ongoing cosmetically investigation of the HOMICIDE “D4” OF the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),Adekunle bus stop ,Panti,Yaba over the subject matter of alleged MURDER of Ganiyu Akinyemi.
“As a reputable human rights body which is absolutely committed to the human rights campaign in our society, we will do the needful by approaching a Court of competent jurisdiction to seek redress if the Police failed to bring justice to the family of Ganiyu Akinyemi for violating his fundamental human rights to life as stipulated by the Section 33&34 of the amended 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Sulaiman therefore insisted that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to use his good office to ensure that justice was prevailed over this mind boggling matter as justice has no colour than justice, describing the dastard act of Police officer (Kazeem) and his company as callous, barbaric, ungodly, evil, heartless, abomination, aberration, anathema, disheartening and criminality which against the natural justice.
