In what happens to be a mild drama between the Executive and the legislature at the National Assembly on Thursday, lawmakers have demanded the resignation of the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

Drama played out when Amaechi, appeared before a joint session of the National Assembly Committee on Land Transport Chaired by Senator Gbenga Ashafa, to defend his Ministry’s budget proposal for 2018.

Ameachi, while defending the budget proposal, was quickly interjected by Vice Chairman of the Joint Committee and a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adesegun Adekoya, representing Ijebu-North/Ijebu-East/Ogun Waterside under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to tell the committee his role in the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming 2019 election.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari, had named Mr. Rotimi Amaechi as the Director General of his 2019 re-election campaign.

Hon. Adekoya, in his demand for an answer stressed that Amaechi cannot double as the DG of President Buhari’s campaign and remain as Minister of Transportation. This he said would affect his deliverables for the year 2018.

According to him, Ameachi can only function as either DG of President Buhari’s re-election campaign or Minister of Transport. He noted his since he has accepted the position of DG, he should immediately tender his resignation letter as the Minister of Transportation so that he can concentrate fully on his re-election assignment while another person take the role of the Minister of Transportaion.

It however took the intervention of the Chairman of the Joint Committee, representing Lagos East Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gbenga Ashafa, to save Amaechi from further troubles.
