Residents Of Trans-Egbu Estate Cautions Imo Housing Corporation Over Open Space

Residents of Trans-Egbu Housing estate Owerri have cautioned the management of the Imo Housing Corporation over what they described as over-zealousness, wickedness and clandestine plot to take over the open space located within their estate, and perhaps share the parcel of land among themselves.

Few days ago, the authority at the Imo State Housing Corporation reportedly moved down heavy duty equipment such as caterpillars, bulldozers, and trucks to the empty field located at the popular Trans-Egbu Housing Estate, a suburb of the state capital and started removing ornamental trees, and embarked on total destruction of the field without any directive from the state government. Irked by the development, the youths in the estate came out in their hundreds and chased the officials of the Imo State Housing Corporation (who were already destroying beautiful trees that dotted the entire open field) away. The trees were planted in the early 1980’s by the then Sam Mbakwe led government. The trees are today over thirty years old and are a beauty to behold.

Consequently, the youths of Trans-Egbu estate and elders including women are not happy about the development and have therefore concluded plans to visit Governor Rochas Okorocha, to table their grievances. They reasoned that Governor Okorocha could not have authorized the destruction of the field and its trees.
