Resident Doctors In Kaduna Begins Strike

Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in Kaduna State, has announced its decision to embark on an indefinite strike.

Addressing newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, the president of ARD in the state, Dr. Joseph Natsah Jokshan appealed to the general public to see the industrial action as the best way to address the issue of health care delivery system in the state.

“Today (yesterday) marks the expiration of our notice, hence, the need to intimate the public and the state government on the resolve of doctors in the state to embark on an indefinite strike since it has failed to live up to the expectation by refusing to address the issue.”

The association had on September 9, 2017 issued 21-day ultimatum to the Kaduna State Government, demanding provision of adequate funding, equipping and staffing of hospitals to create a conducive working and living environment for the medical and other health workers as well as patients.

Other demands include immediate payment of house officers’ salaries and arrears, putting a mechanism in place to prevent future delays in payment of house officers’ salaries, immediate and full implementation of the corrected Consolidated Medical Salary Structure of Nigeria, placement of medical officers in their appropriate grade level, immediate implementation of already approved funding for residency training of Kaduna state doctors on supernumerary training and immediate promotion of doctors due for promotion with prompt advancement and payment of arrears in the event of delayed payment.
