Norbert Okolie, Media Officer, Rangers International FC, Enugu, said on Tuesday that the club had stopped the screening of players to scout for the best legs ahead of 2019/2020 season.

Okolie in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu noted that such a step would enable the club to start preparations for the next season promptly.

He said: “We have new players who feel they can play for Rangers, and we do not want to waste our time in having long period of screening.

“The technical crew prefer seeing the players in active football to having match materials and not training materials for the season at the end of the day.

“Next season is already around the corner; so, we are not going to have screening but selection through trial matches.

“Our aim for the trial matches is to pick the qualified players and gel them with the retained ones before the season gets underway.”

Okolie noted that the club spotted good players in the course of the past season, adding that those ones would be drafted into the club after negotiation.

On the camp situation, Okolie said they had yet to have a full house, as some players were being expected to arrive before the weekend.

He said: “We have a good number of retained players in the camp, while the new ones are also reporting to duty under the leadership of the interim Coach, Benedict Ugwu.

“I’m sure we are still on the right track because the players already in camp have started the necessary training needed during Pre-season.”

He said the club’s management had been in contact with the organisers of the African Football Confederation Confederation competition.

According to Okolie, the pairing for the competition has been scheduled for between August 9 and 11.

“It is after the paring that we will know our fate, and see if we are going to play the preliminary matches or not,” Okolie said.

Okolie expressed confidence that the players would be ready for action whenever the CAF competition and the League commence.
