Provide Your Face Mask, Nasarawa Commissioner Of Education, Science And Technology Tells Returning Students Of Tertiary Institutions

Nasarawa State Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology, Honorable Fati Sabo has told the returning students of tertiary institutions in the state to provide face mask for their personal use as schools resumed.

 

She gave the disclosure during an interview with selected Journalists at the ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.

 

Adding that government would not shoulder the entire burden alone, the Commissioner stated this twenty-four hours after the directive given to all heads of public and private tertiary institutions in the state.

 

Fati Sabo said all tertiary institutions must abide by the safety measures of coronavirus pandemic on resumption for academic activities to kick start.

 

“If we directed all the tertiary institutions to return doesn’t mean that they must resume immediately on 26 October 2020, they have to plan their academic calendar through the academic board”.

 

The Commissioner reiterated that all safety measures of COVID-19 must be observed ranging from sitting arrangement in classrooms, the use of soap and water, use of infrared at entry points of all institutions.

 

She in addition buttressed that the ministry of Education is working with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resource to fumigate and all classrooms and hostels in tertiary institutions.

 

Speaking on the action plan of the current administration in the area of technical education, the honorable Commissioner hinted that Engineer Abdullahi Sule’s commitment to boost technical education translates to the renaming of the then College of Agriculture to College of Agriculture, Science, and Technology.

 

She however stated that the inclusion of Science and Technology would give rise to the introduction of the technically oriented courses.

 

“While in Isa Mustapha Agwai l Polytechnic, Lafia, the Commissioner said frantic commitment has been made by the governor to secure accreditation for engineering and Environmental Science”.

 

She maintained that students of engineering and Environmental Science would be trained to be job creators, not job seekers.

 

Fati Sabo listed some of the strides of the incumbent administration to include completion and equipping of Lafia Institute of Technical  Education, adding that the state government has identified three areas which include Welding, fabrication, Agricultural mechanization.

 

The Commissioner said the outbreak of coronavirus seriously affects the budget of the ministry been the highest vote in 2020 budget

 

According to her, “our 2021 commitment would be a facelift as well reorganizing the system through the provision of practical consumable and to enhance practical.

 

Fati Sabo while commenting on the school census which was an annual ritual conducted to know the authentic figure of students and their needs in public schools, an essential task neglected by the successive government, the Commissioner said the ministry was aware of the development.

 

She averred that there was minimal provision for schools census in the 2020 budget, and assuring that by 2021 the ministry would accord utmost priority to that.

 

Fati Sabo hinted that statistics officers have been trained in that regards with the help of goggle apps which she maintained that the application is more reliable and an evidence-based data collection.
