The Nigeria Ambassador to  Russia, Prof Abdullahi Yibeikwal Suleiman has called for peace and tranquility for a better society on the Plateau and the country at large.

This was contained in a statement made available to our medium in Jos, Plateau State he said, first of all, is for us to understand peace in the context of collective security that if anybody is living in Jos, for example, he’s a defender of Jos irrespective of his religion, irrespective of ethnic groups and irrespective of any other qualities.

According to him, If there’s anything that is a threat to Jos we should work together to bring about peace, and respect for one another in doing so we will be greater together.

Secondly, the role of religious leaders is very important there, they must not only preach peace, but they must also be seen to be encouraging people to be peaceful.

Thirdly, the government should address those other auxiliary factors that create room for criminality in other words, we must focus on reducing poverty and creating employment or the means by which we can engage our youthful population so that they can be productive to our society.

Furthermore, he said, why should it be that is only plateau State would know that people are talking about using religion as a factor, using ethnicity as a factor, using poverty as a factor and politics as a factor? So there may be other motives behind which we need to explore. If you compare

Plateau State and Lagos State you will see that the issue of ethnicity and religion is not as pronounced in Lagos as it is in Nigeria and probably that’s why, everybody feels like, Lagos is a home where he or she can do business.

And for us outside Nigeria for our state to be under flame we feel so very sad we have seen how another society has developed and we have seen the potentials of our state and that without peace I can tell you nobody will come to plateau State so this message has to be understood by those who are within and outside the state.

He called on political gladiators who may feel desperate about political leadership to have a rethink. He stressed the need for constructive peacebuilding and respect for one another
