The Honorable Speaker Plateau state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Peter Azi has said , poor parenting is responsible for drug addictions in our society were youths resort to dangerous illicit drugs ,
He condemned the deplorable level of decay in our parenting today which is directly impacting negative in the lives of our children.
Addressing Traditional and stakeholders at the two days’ workshop organized by community’s empowerment initiative in partnership with Jos North Local Government Area to reduce Illicit drugs and promote peaceful coexistence.
He decried the level of decayed in our society were parents cannot give training rather they consider paper qualification which has forced many youth to roaming about the streets.
Hon Azi applauded the local government for organizing enlightenment campaign to reduce drug addiction and other dangerous substances which is destroying the youths.
He called on parents to ensure that they live no stone unturned by doing something that can better the lives of the youths.
The Executive Director communities Empowerment Initiative (CEI). Dr Juliana Mafwil sued parents on moral discipline in the children upbringing.
She said the sensitization is aim at calling on parents to have collective responsibility of building the future of their ward to grow and be leaders of tomorrow.
Mafwil urged parents to come together to see how we can address the menace in our society ,especially in Jos North Local Government Area were high rate of crime and criminality.
Dr. Juliana Mafwil congratulated the chairman for her visionary leadership as a mother to help enlightened women on the happenings in the household and in the community at large.
According to her, community empowerment initiative is passionate about community issues and council should partner toward network for the success of the programme .
She charged local government to be proactive by partnering with other communities to address youth restiveness.
Mafwil stressed that elders and stakeholders are seriously concerned at what is happening to youth in this generation because out of ignorance they are destroying their tomorrow.
The Local Government Management committee Chairman,Hon. Peter Azi said the regular consumption of Goskolo was responsible for the challenges of drug addiction .
She tasked parents to ensure that the cultivate the culture of Complimenting the effort of government .
Those that witness the occasion include,CAN ,JNI ,Traditional rulers in Jos North ,Youth leaders and Sheik Yahaya Jingir who promised to go back impact positively in their communities.
“we have missed the track of disciplining our children for leadership , our society can be better if we create this platform to train the youth in our home “,she added.
She promised that party stalwart are going to meet and deliberate on how to rehabilitate camp to help those who are affected by this illicit drugs .
Pointing out that APC government is ready to free the youth in Jos North with the collaboration of government and stakeholders ,she stated .
