The political atmosphere in Adamawa State is growing increasingly charged as multiple aspirants within the All Progressives Congress (APC) step forward to contest key positions ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
In what observers describe as a widening internal contest, several aspirants have converged at the APC Secretariat in Yola to formally declare their intentions, signaling the beginning of a potentially intense race for the party’s governorship ticket.
Among the leading contenders is Tijjani Galadima, who officially announced his bid, pledging to consolidate on the achievements recorded by the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Galadima emphasized continuity and development, promising to sustain and expand ongoing initiatives if given the party’s mandate.
While congratulating the newly elected executives, former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) formally announced his decision to join the governorship race, stating that the move followed wide consultations with critical stakeholders across the state.
“I stand before you today to inform you, my political family, that after extensive consultations with elders, youths, women and professionals, I have offered myself to serve the people of Adamawa State,” he declared.
Galadima emphasized that his ambition is anchored on experience, sincerity and a commitment to service, distancing himself from divisive politics.
“I did not come with noise, insults or division. I come with experience, sincerity and a heart ready to serve,” he added.
He pledged that if elected, his administration would focus on unity, ethno religious harmony, addressing youth restiveness and unemployment, addressing education gaps and insecurity and strengthening agriculture amongst others.
He also promised to uphold transparency, accountability and respect for party structures, while building on existing achievements in the state.
In his response, APC State Chairman, Hamza Bello Madagali, described his visit as a positive development that would strengthen the party.
According to him, the responsibility of the party leadership is to safeguard unity and ensure that all processes are conducted fairly and transparently.
“Your coming is a welcome development. We, as executives, are custodians of the party, entrusted to ensure everything goes well. Building the party requires contributions from people like you,” Madagali said.
He assured Galadima and other aspirants of a level playing ground, stressing that the party would organize free, fair and credible primaries that would be acceptable to all contestants.
“We will make sure there is a level playing field where everyone has a sense of belonging. The process will be conducted in such a way that nobody will complain or feel cheated,” he stated.
Madagali added that the party machinery from the state to local government levels would be mobilized to ensure justice and inclusiveness throughout the electoral process.
The chairman also revealed that the sale of nomination forms had commenced, reiterating the commitment of the party leadership to fairness at all levels of contest.
Similarly, Abdulrazak Namdas has also entered the race, outlining his priorities with a strong focus on security.
He pledged to address the persistent farmers-herders clashes that have affected parts of the state, while also acknowledging the progress made under Governor Fintiri’s administration across various sectors.
In a related development, Peter Leonard Fwa has declared his intention to contest for the Senate seat representing Adamawa South.
Fwa, a professional town planner, expressed confidence that his expertise would drive infrastructural growth and sustainable development in the zone.
He also committed to promoting inclusivity, particularly by ensuring greater participation of women in governance.
