Polio Would Be Eradicated In Nigeria With The Support Of Parents – Bogoro LG Chairman

The Chairman of Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Yakubu Lawi Sumi, on Saturday, said that with the support of parents, polio disease will be eradicated in Nigeria.

He said this during the flagging off of the polio Immunization campaign at the Primary School, saying that parents, particularly mothers, should help governments at various levels by making available of their children available for polio.

He said that immunisation safeguards children from polio’s devastating effects, including deformity and death.

He further said that immunisation is a vital step in boosting the health and immunity of our children in the community.

The council boss appeals to parents, particularly mothers, to take advantage of the campaign and ensure their children are vaccinated for the polio Immunization.

“Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir is doing everything to protect our children, and it is our responsibility as parents and caregivers to support this cause”.

The Local Government Chairman, Yakubu Lawi Sumi, commended the efforts of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, World Health Organisation (WHO), and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for their interventions in healthcare delivery services in Bogoro Local Government Area.

On his part, the Director Primary Health Care Department, Bogoro LGA, Mr Godwill Hakuri said that the effective vaccine targets children aged zero to 59 months.

Hakuri highlighted its role in preventing poliomyelitis, a deadly disease that can cripple or kill. Urged parents to seize the opportunity to secure their children’s health.

The Director of Primary Health Care of the local government, Godwill Hakuri, calls on traditional and religious leaders to support health officials in mobilising to ensure the success of the vaccination campaign in their various domains.

While the village head of Bogoro, Nuhu Tafida, expressed his appreciation to Governor Bala Muhammed Abdulkadir of the State for his proactive health initiatives and measures to prevent deadly diseases in children.

The village head, who was represented by Jidauna Gonto, promised the local government Chairman that the traditional leaders would play their role to see the success of the polio Immunization campaign.
