Plateau State Women Affairs Ministry And State Assembly Advocates Passage Of Gender And Equal Opportunities Bill

The Ministry for Women Affairs and Social and the Committee on Women Affairs, Plateau State House of Assembly Hon Olivia Dazyem and ZAINAB Dogo has advocated for the passage of the bill with amendment of section 12 sub 2 in order to include women and girls.
Speaking during a public hearing on inter gender development center titled :”Gender and equal opportunities bill” at Hill station, Jos, with support from Gender Equity in Plateau State, she emphasized that the area of the section 21 needs to be corrected to be rights of women only and remove men in line with the submission. She added that; “we are requesting for a gender and equal opportunity unit in the ministry for women affairs and social development as obtained in some state which had gone successfully in2007 and assented.

We are seeking the removal of section 2 to 10 but not pursuant of a unit and not commission.”
Olivia said, the gender and equal opportunity bill has reached an encouraging level now at public hearing , which is a good indication that the bill will be passed and supported by all Nigerians.

According to her ,citizens have began to benefit from democracy which is consider as democracy in action for members of the public to contribute to this it by putting the opinion before the law.

She commended the women for their positive contribution in making the gender bill meaningful because there’s justice and fair play.

Dayzem added that the bill seek to protect the right of women and men.
Chairman House Committee on Gender Zainab Dogo said this is the first public hearing which helps to clement relationship between men and women.


Dogo assured the general public of passing of bill against discriminating women after the dead of their husband. Women are today taking the responsibility of training their children who suffered societal challenges because the absence law affected their daily lives.
