Yakubu Busari
A staunch contender of the Chairmanship position in the forthcoming Plateau State Congress of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Comrade Philip Asanato Adik has expressed confidence in Governor Simon Lalong who is the leader of the party in the State and Arch. Pam Dung Gyang, a respected elder and stalwart of the APC as well as the Chairman of, Zoning Committee.
The vote of confidence is coming on the heels of a story making the rounds in the social media by a faceless group suggesting the rezoning of the Chairmanship position of the party to Southern Zone having been already zoned to the Northern zone of the state which saw more than 8 people expressing interest and have engaged in vigorous campaign activities. The group was explicit on who it was working for in-person of Yakubu Dati, the current Commissioner of Lands and Survey.
It is in the light of this that some journalists contacted Arch PD Gyang on the matter who described the said write-up as thrash stressing that as far as the Governor is concerned, the Northern zone would produce the next Chairman of the party.
In his response, Adik noted that one good thing about democracy is that people have the right to express their views and those campaigning for Yakubu Dati for the Chairmanship have the right to do so. “But you see, in politics just like in other disciplines, there is morality which guides the way and manner we conduct our affairs. It is for this reason that the response of PD Gyang (a respected elder statesman) did not surprise me because of his moral standing. And I am positive his position is equally the position of Gov. Lalong. You see, the issue of zoning is already engraved in our minds and we conduct our political affairs in line with this unconsciously. You would agree with me also that it is as a result of this that Lalong became the Governor of Plateau State”, he said.
Adik called on his supporters not to be distracted by such pettiness and urged them to remain steadfast to their cause.
He reiterated his desire to run a decent and all-encompassing people-oriented political party that newcomers can readily key into as well as providing leadership and foster strong bonds of unity, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and confidence among party members if given the mandate.
