The Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) North Central Zone, Hon. Dakas Shan has expressed shock at the way he was received at the Plateau State secretariat this morning by some stern looking thugs, whom he alleged, claimed to be acting on the authority of the Suspended State Chairman, Hon. Damishi Sango.

Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan, who was directed by the national office of the PDP, in a letter addressed to him, dated 12th July, 2019 and signed by Sen. Umaru Ibrahim as National Secretary, to come to Plateau State to facilitate a smooth investigation of allegations raised against, the state chairman and his deputy, Hon. Amos Gombi, by 16 members of the state PDP Executive, told journalists this evening that youths allegedly working under the instructions of Hon. Damishi Sango had stopped him from having access into the state secretariat and that it took the intervention of the Police before he came in.

Hon. Dakas Shan said he could not believe that Hon. Sango could do or direct such against him despite his efforts in the past few days to explain why he is in Plateau to him and other stakeholders of the party in the state.

Dakas Shan, while fielding answers to questions from journalists at his office at the Plateau State PDP secretariat in part said:-

“You are all aware of the crisis in the Plateau State chapter. It started few weeks ago. The national secretariat is also aware too! I have been here before, owing to the coming of the powerful Committee constituted by the national office in respect of the crisis.

“I am not here in support of any of the factions. I am here for the party. Secondly, I am not a member of the Committee, but I am here to ensure that the Committee gets a working conducive atmosphere.

“I am a very peaceful man I have been elected as chairman here twice.

“I came in yesterday and I had peaceful meetings, but only this morning I started hearing of moves to stop me from gaining access into the secretariat. I never thought it could be Hon. Sango that was going to engineer it, but I was wrong!

“This morning, I saw youths, who are like thugs, who claimed that Sango had instructed them that others and I, should not be allowed to gain access into the office. At the end of the day we went to the Plateau State Police Headquarters.

“It is a fact that, I had earlier intimated the Police of why I had come to the state, but from the development, we are expected to go back to the Police on Monday.

“What everybody must understand is that, the Chairman has not been removed yet. The committee would be here to investigate allegations so far raised. The Party has a grievance settling procedure and this step shows that the removal process has just started.

“From the terms of reference of the Sen. David Mark’s Committee, they are expected to:-

Investigate and find out the friction in the chapter.

Find and investigate the mistrust between the stakeholders and the State Working Committee.

Investigate the financing of the Presidential election and what happened that PDP lost in the state and,

Find solutions on how the party would be stable in order to win future elections.

According to Dakas Shan, the Committee has three weeks to start and finish its work and that it has already commenced work, as it has started talking with major stakeholders in Abuja.

Stating that, “The Committee’s three weeks was supposed to end next Monday, but the Committee has applied for more two weeks”.
