Following the political crises rocking the Plateau state Exco of the People Democratic Party ,PDP which has been Irked by the pervasive failure of leadership and the inability to move the PDP forward, embattled Chairman of the Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Damishi Sango, has been told to resign now.

Hon. Timothy Golu, who made this call directly at Chairman Sango, said he has decided to come public with the issues and the person that has made the party perform poorly during the just concluded general elections in the state. Adding that, he is also using the openness of the issues to draw the attention of the elders and other members of the party in and outside the state, to understand the happenings.

Hon. Golu, who had over an interaction with journalists at the weekend from Abuja, said the members of the party in the state have now come to realize that, Chief Sango lacks the basic understanding of contemporary democratic leadership and that Sango sees politics as Traditional hence, he sees himself as a Traditional Ruler of the Plateau State chapter of the PDP and permanent to him.

According to him, “Once he takes a decision, it remains final”.

Hon. Golu said Sango forgot that democracy is built on the Rule of Law and that democracy implies due-process.

“The fact is, if there was no rule of Law and due-process, Sango would not have to occupy the office among other staff. The party brought him through its rules, but now he has refused to abide by the same rules. He thinks as if he is ruling and administering animals in the party”. Hon. Golu said.

Adding that, “SEE, THE GOD OF PDP IS GOING TO JUDGE SANGO, there would be no escape route for him anywhere because he thought that he is deceiving people and not knowing that God is watching him”.

Hon. Timothy Golu, in part, said:- “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Plateau State is not just stagnant, but we are retrogressing and all these wrong things are happening because of the leadership style that we have had in the last few years.

“The chapter has not seen progress at all, under the leadership of the embattled out-going former chairman, Chief Damishi Sango.

“Since Sango took over, as the PDP chairman in the state, we have not slept with our eyes closed. Only Sango knows why he aspired to lead the party at the state level. We all believed that with age on his side, he was going to perform beyond expectations. We also believed that he was going to take the chapter and the party beyond our imaginations.

“But, we are surprised and on the other hand, not surprised because so many people had warned us against electing his as the party chairman in the state. We, however, believe that human beings are dynamic and owing to the experience of where we’re coming from and where we are going, we all believed that Sango was going to do something to make the party work in the state.

“But, since he took over, we have moved from one crisis to another.

“We now come to realize that Chief Sango lacks a basic understanding of contemporary democratic leadership.

“Sango sees politics as Traditional. So, he sees himself as a Traditional Ruler of the Plateau State chapter of the PDP and permanent to him. Once he takes a decision, it remains final.

“He forgot that democracy is built on the Rule of Law. He also forgot that democracy implies due-process.

“The fact is, if there was no rule of Law and due-process, Sango would not have to occupy the office among other staff. The party brought him through its rules, but now he has refused to abide by the same rules.

“He thinks as if he is ruling and administering animals in the party.

“We must know that democracy is for the intelligent. This holds, whether they are educated or not. You would find that politicians understand the basic sense of what they are doing or intend to do. It is an election, seeking for power, forming a government and providing governance, they know what to do.

“So, if a person is faulty when he/she gets to the government, he would also be faulty.

“Just look at the poor performance of PDP in Plateau State, where we had 3 senators, 13 members of assemblies among others. Where are we today? See how the party is going down in the state.

“Painfully, Chief Sango is not feeling any remorse. He does not have or shows the compassion expected of a leader. He has never called for a meeting to enable the party to assess what went wrong because he does not know or understand that something went wrong.

“He is rather after his interest. He is more after what he would get out of the party. Sango has sidelined all of us at the national level, including other stakeholders. He changed the chairman of the State Elders Forum. He removed a former governor of the state, Chief Fidelis Tapgun, who was the Chairman of the Elders Forum and replaced him with his friend. Whenever they are holding a meeting at the council and he finds that the majority of the statutory delegates would not agree with him, he would create what he calls an expanded SEC or Stakeholders meetings. This is aimed at bringing in people that would support his idea.

“You can now see where we are coming from and where we are going!

“I want this man Sango to honorably resign! Only a miracle, directly from God can bring Sango back, as chairman of the state chapter of the PDP. This is because Chief Sango’s case has passed that which another can redeem.

“We have a clueless, colorless, directionless and focusless PDP under Sango as state chairman. We don’t have a direction at all. This can be verified from members and stakeholders alike, except, for those, who are his blind loyalists, who may have benefited from him. These set of people see what they gain from him as POLITICS. If not, there is nobody that would constructively tell you about the progress the chapter has made under the watch and leadership of Chief Sango.

“If I were him, I would honorably resign!

“He has told people that he would not go down without a fight. What is the need for a fight? It does not affect as there would be no benefit! If they bring Chief Sango back, let me tell you, the party would be finished in Plateau. Well, I don’t even know who would bring him back. There is no way the leadership of the party would bring him back as that would mean multiplying what is already happening.

“See, it is people who voted him in so, how can he think that he can impose himself on the people? Even if he was a Traditional Ruler and the people say he should go, he would. Even though Traditional institutions are not democratic, but once the people are fed up with the Traditional Ruler, there is nothing he can do to add one more day by himself!

“95% to 98% of the PDP members in the state and followers of the party in the state are against Sango now because he has failed them by not providing good leadership.

“This was somebody who was a Local Government Chairman from there he contested for the presidency of this country with people like late Abiola of blessed memory. He became a Minister under a democracy. What else do you think can be given to Sango? But since he could not bring all these experiences to bear, then it means he has not learnt anything from democracy!

“This is not about age! He simply has not learnt. Now, this is a time that the PDP needs a focused, critical thinking and exemplary leader, whom somebody can rely on to provide leadership. This is no longer time for trial and error. It is no longer time for someone to come and experiment with the leadership of the party. It is not the time for Mongo Park ideas! What the PDP desires now, is a real-time leader.

“It is critical to note that after the general elections in the state conducted by INEC, Sango has not visited any LG, to the best of my knowledge. We have issues in the LGs as you can see. Like in Kanke LG, Sango compounded our problems there! He even refused to listen to us! He does not believe that anybody that he is older than by an hour can advise him. Once he is aware that he is older than you, you are already in trouble. He would simply say, “Small boy, you can’t talk to me”.

“He forgot that it was these same small boys that voted for him when he was seeking for the chairmanship seat. You know what? He followed us to our respective homes and continued calling our phone lines every day.

“When he finally became Chairman, he also became an Emperor and a problem to the PDP in the state.

“He was the cause of the failure of the party in the general election in the state. This is because he has no interest in the party. If not, why did we lose?

“SEE, THE GOD OF PDP IS GOING TO JUDGE SANGO! There would be an escape route for him anywhere because he thought that he is deceiving people and not knowing that God is watching.

“Sadly too, Sango does not even know what we are passing through now or the status of our various cases at the Tribunals. He has been coming to the office and ruling nobody. He cannot relate to anybody at the national level or the national headquarters. We are aware of this! He cannot also relate with the SEC, which is the highest decision making body at the state level. so, how can he relate with the LG Chairmen?

“Over 95% of the members are against him right now yet, he is playing midfield without defense and forward. He better quietly resigns!

“He had told many that he can destroy the party. So, on this ground alone, we want him out. This is to enable us to refocus the chapter.

“It is a fact that Sango has gone round most political parties before re-landing on PDP platform. For me, I have never left the PDP since 1998, when I joined as a Journalist, then at The Nigeria Standard Newspaper. I am one of the founding members of the party, as a Journalist. The first Press Conference of the PDP was carried by me when I was writing for The Nigeria Standard.

“Chief Sango has made may people to leave the party at the state chapter. A senator and some assembly members left and he was not worried. He has no compassion or passion.

“When I was fighting Sango on these issues, people refused to understand me. They thought I was having a personal interest. Today, they can see and understand better.

“Chief Sango has never lasted or completed his tenure in any of his appointments. He only stayed one year as a Minster and today his administration is wobbling as a chairman of the PDP. Those who also opposed his style of leadership earlier have also been vindicated and they are laughing at us now with other political parties in the state. When he was elected as chairman, the other political parties were happy knowing very well that, Sango would not work for the PDP. From the developments in the party today, this opinion has come to be true.

“You would recall that he was recently accused and the chapter followed due-process before suspending him for one month. This is because the constitution of the party provides that, the State Working Committee is the only organ that can suspend a member after forming a quorum. Then a committee of 7 was constituted to investigate the allegations. Sango was invited and he refused to appear. He felt too big to appear!

“For his Deputy, Hon. Amos Gombi, he has been removed. This is because he is not a member of NEC. His case ends at the SEC. So, we are not talking about him anymore. His case is a foregone matter!

“From Kanke LG, we were asked to submit a replacement and we have done that. He is now replaced by Retired Captain Golen, a party man. But for Sango, his case was delayed because he is a member of NEC and the constitution requires that a formal complaint be made to the national office. It is now the national office that would investigate the allegations against Sango.

“I have decided to come to the public at this time, to draw the attention of our elders to the issues in the chapter and how Sango is leading the party aground”.
