The President of Nigeria Union Local Government Employees, NULGE, Plateau State Chapter Comrade, Samson Mafuyai has mourned the National president, Late Comrade Khaleel Ibrahim who died on Wednesday and was buried on Thursday in Kano state as he also called on the new President to continue on his struggle for Local government autonomy and fight for staff welfare.
In an interview with our correspondent on Monday, he described the death of the late President as a great loss to the Union considering the positive impact and the contributions of the late Ibrahim Khaleel in nation-building.
According to him, the death of Khaleel came to all their members as a rude shock, more so that he never had any history of illness and we were told he slumped died when he went out for routine exercise and the sad news of his death has destabilized all of us.
However, Mafuyai lamented that before his unfortunate demise, the deceased was the national treasurer of the Nigerian Labour Congress and that they regret that he has gone but there are quite a lot of meaningful programs he outlined which would have benefited the union.
The NULGE Plateau state President Comrade Samson Mafutai said; “we are thrown into mourning as Ibrahim Khaleel, the national president of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), has been reported dead.
He disclosed that the late Khaleel was reported to have died on Wednesday, October 7, after being rushed to the National Hospital in Abuja where he was pronounced dead.
According to him NULGE chairman, Comrade Samson confirmed the loss; the deceased slumped and was quickly rushed to the hospital only for all efforts made to save him to be in vain.
He expressed grief over the death of the NULGE national chairman, we mourn his death and we know that everyone on this earth has his own departure time, therefore, we give thanks to Almighty Allah for what happened.
Comrade Samson Mafuyai emphasized that the Plateau state Chapter regretted that he has gone but with a lot of laudable projects that touched the lives of members and couldn’t complete it but his untimely death didn’t allow that to happen.
He mourned Khaleel and sent a condolence message to his family and labour families; our prayer is that the person who took over the mantle of leadership Comrade Labbo that has stepped into late Ibrahim Khaleel shoe should carry on with the program and projects he started.
Comrade Samson Mafuyai pointed out that the late, Khaleel passed away as at the time his services were needed most in Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees and the country at large.
He prayed that God grant the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss. He also prayed that God grant Khaleel Al-Janatul Fridaus (the highest return).
Well on the issue of the minimum wage, we have been led by our negotiating council. The NLC Chairman Plateau state has made it public that PLSG will start the payment of minimum wage from October salary.
He employed the new President Comrade Labo to ensure that the struggle for local Government autonomy should not die. He said the attention of the govt should be drawn to ensure all civil servants in all tiers of govt benefit.
He urged all LG workers to overwhelmingly support the Comrade Labbo led administration to succeed. This can be done by giving him the necessary cooperation for him to achieve success.
Mafuyai added; “we don’t want his legacy projects to be abandoned across the 774 LGAs in the country especially his struggle for LGCs autonomy.
He called on all members to remain resolute especially in a period when the Union is facing challenges.
Comrade Samson Mafuyai advised the new president Comrade Labo to ensure that programs outlined by the late Ibrahim Khaleel are continued and followed to a logical conclusion.
