Plateau Immunizes 2,644 Children Across Checkpoints Against Polio

About 1,058,045 children have been immunized within four weeks of federal government routine immunization exercise including 2,644 children at all the strategic check points in Plateau State .

The Executive Secretary, Plateau State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr Miapkwap Livinus has disclosed that

The Plateau state primary health care development board in collaboration with ,Nigeria Medical Association, NMA,UNICEF, WHO ,EU-SIGN and STF to ensure that children below the ages of 0 to 45 months are immunized.

Dr Miapkwap explained that the initiative of the exercise was to kick out polio of the state, by ensuring that children are immunizing against polio.

He said, the board had carried out a mob up exercise on the fifths day after the four day expiration to provide health care development to the state.

According to him, he also commended the plateau state government the support accorded them to carry out immunization exercise at major entry points to the state which are Zaria road, Bauchi road, Riyom ,Ganawuri ,Kuka Shendam and Garga axis as well as namu ,Dawaki areas for 01:44 respectively.

Dr Livinus noted that this process had assisted in curtailing the spread of the polio virus.

Adding on the issue of some parents who refusing their children to be immunized, Dr Livinus explained the board had seek the collaboration of religion leaders to enlighten their members on the need to immunize their children.

He also commended the plateau state government directives that it, would close down any school in the state that refuses to allow its pupils to be immunized.

Dr Miapkwap applauded the contributions of the plateau state government towards the success of the program as well as approving supervisors to the seventeen local government areas of the state.
