The Honourable Chief Judge of Plateau State , Hon. Justice Yakubu Gyang Dakwak has unveiled the Plateau state administration of criminal justice law practice direction No 1 of 2021 towards promoting law reform and quick dispensation of the justice system.
Yakubu Dakwak disclosed this during the unveiling ceremony held at the High Court complex, Jos on the 5th December 2021.
He said, ‘you would recall that owing to the great interest the Executive Governor Simon Lalong in an efforts to ensure law reforms and development in Plateau State, this state was amongst the States that first adopted and domesticated the administration of criminal justice law act,2015 by the enactment of the Plateau state house of Assembly, which was speedily assented to by the Governor on the 25th September,,2018.
Justice Dakwak explained further that the consistent complaints about the challenges faced by the prosecutors, judges, magistrates, lawyers, the security personnel, and the staff of the correctional services with the implementation of the ACJL,2018.
Adding, the Plateau state judiciary is key in the law reforms agenda of the administration of Governor Simon Lalong when in April 2021, he constituted and inaugurated two separate committees of experienced judges of the high countries to formulate a practice direction for the effective implementation of the administration of criminal justice law, 2018, and the Plateau state high court civil procedures rule 2020.
Hon Justice Dakwak , told the Plateau state stakeholders that the committee on the practice direction relating to the administration of criminal justice law, 2018 consists of ;
Hon. Justice Arum Ashom Chairman ,Hon Justice Gedaliah Fwonyon Member ,Hon Justice Boniface Ngyou Member, Barr.Maria Lobadungze Secretary .
He disclosed that the committee has worked hard to produce the draft of the administration of criminal justice law practice direction No 1 of 2021that is to be unveiled today.
Dakwak commended the committee for their personal sacrifice, which led to the success of this work, even in the midst of poor funding and their functions.
He appreciated the management of the national judicial institute who organized a one-day workshop for some participants drawn from all the justice sectors in the state to securitize the draft of the practice direction No 1of 2021 and for publishing three hundred (300) copies of the same of charge.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of the High Court, Mrs. Ladi Madaki applauded Governor Simon Lalong for making the state great in the practice of law reforms in Nigeria.
She commended the committee for their untiring effort to ensure law reforms work and for quick dispensation of the justice system and making the state judicial system.
