Plateau CAN Stinks Of Corruption, As COCIN, ECWA, Others Demands Removal Of Bewarang As Chairman, Many Blocs Not Invited For Prayers

A crisis is said to be rocking the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Plateau Chapter over the Prayer Day for the 2019 General Elections as factional groups boycotted the prayer, while some also accused Plateau CAN leadership headed by Reverend Dr. Soja Bewarang of not inviting them for the closed door prayer with the Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo.

In what seems to be a brewing hatred amongst heads of denominations, some blocs are now demanding the removal of the present Chairman whose tenure they alleged expired as the head of COCIN bloc and he conspired to manipulate change of the constitution to favour him in order to continue occupying the seat of which ought to be for the ECWA denominational head.

Universalreportersng.com learnt that the Plateau state chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) has been factionalized along denominational line and differences, where they people indicated their dissatisfaction with the current leadership of Rev. Dr. Soja Bewarang led administration.

This medium gathered that the political prayers orchestrated by the CAN chairman to woo votes for the APC in the forthcoming election saw them assembled all the leadership of CAN across the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau state to come and convinced them to vote for the incumbent government.

They alleged that he is indeed retired and tired of protecting their interest as members of the church in Nigeria especially, Plateau state chapter who are suffering in silence under the present government.

However, it was gathered that some members of the church have condemned the full participation of religious leaders in canvassing for election to a particular political party but Governor Simon Lalong said that the people of Plateau state are known for organizing prayers like this especially during the election period.

Lalong clearly expressed confidence that three years ago a similar prayer was held where Christians came together to seek for divine intervention from God where he said that the election was free and fair.

According to him, the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo was occupied with a series of events but he promised to come and participate in the prayers, so this visit is a homecoming to ensure a peaceful election.

Lalong disclosed that the CAN leadership approached him that they want to organize for the forthcoming election but we know God only can decide the credibility of the election except those who lose that can reject the outcome of the election results.

It was gathered that Rev Dr. Soja Bewarang represented by secretary conducted himself very well under the strict supervision of Bishop Katung who is a close associate of the Vice president.

In fact while given the opportunity for him to pray for peaceful and credible elections, the congregation of members was grumbling saying all we need do is cast our votes and allow God to take control.

However, many Christian worshippers most of the villagers were told to come and pray for the success of the poll only to arrive at the Eliel Centre to see difference inscription on the banner.

Our correspondent at the venue witnessed that they complained bitterly and those whose names were not called for recognition quietly left immediately to avoid embracement.

Some of the favored ministers were given transportation fare back while some were busy raining abuse of why CAN invited them and insulted them with such little money considering the hardship in the land.

Universalreportersng.com also learnt that at the CAN secretariat in the evening it was the turn of PDP gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni who came in company of campaign team led Hon Damishi Sango where they held meeting behind closed door that lasted for almost one hour.

Some of the aggrieved CAN members who were privileged to have a clear knowledge waited to see the blessing of God favour.

He said all the people are members of the denominational heads were represented, we all gathered as a family to pray with you.

This is not a political gathering but you are Baptist member of the church, we call to pray with you at this gathering.
