The Plateau State House of Assembly Wednesday rejected the six month extension for the Local Government Management Committee Chairmen requested by Governor Simon Bako Lalong.

The State Assembly which commenced sitting at about 12pm rejected the request during plenary session shortly before the presentation of the 2016 budget by the state governor, at the State House complex.

According to the Plateau state House of Assembly speaker, Peter Azi who read  the  communication of the request said Lalong asked for the extension to enable the state government set in motion modalities for the next LGA elections in the state.

Soon after reading of the communication, PDP minority leader, Daniel Dem, representing Riyom argued that the six month extension contradicted the agreement made on the floor of the House Assembly which said for whatever circumstances, “only two months” would be added to the Management Committee Chairmen and not six months as demanded by the governor.

Responding to the two months extension noted by Dem, the APC majority leader in the House, Henry Hynkop, representing Shendam, seconded the two months extension since it was a resolution of the House.

Our correspondent reports that the Management Committee Chairmen who were sworn in October this year were to vacate office January ending based on the three months initial request by the governor .
